Brimming with Briolettes

Earlier this month I attended a bead show in my local area.  I really didn't intend on buying a lot, just some beads I was running low on.  Right...  Well, $500+ later....  I admit  went  a little crazy, but I did get what I needed and at great quality.  Faceted beads are really what I am getting into now- I just love the formal and sophisticated look, the sparkle they lend to finished pieces.

With some of my new stash I made some lovely briolette necklaces.  Variations on the theme of three briolettes on a handmade hammered fine silver ring, strung on a necklace, either silk cord, sterling chain, or a beaded strand using some of my lovely purchases.

Here are a few:
prasiolite and ruby choker

For this sparkly choker necklace I wire-wrapped three gemstone briolettes- prasiolite, natural ruby, and blue topaz. Then I attached them to a handmade hammered fine silver ring. I created a beaded necklace strand using faceted prasiolite and ruby briolettes, then attached the briolette charm to the center.

or...

prehnite garnet and citrine briolettes

For this charming necklace I wire-wrapped three gemstone briolettes- prehnite, garnet, and citrine. Then I attached them to a handmade hammered fine silver ring and strung it on an 18 inch sage green hand dyed silk cord with a sterling clasp.

how about:
amethyst ruby and iolite briolettes

For this sparkly necklace I wire-wrapped three gemstone briolettes- natural ruby, amethyst, and iolite. Then I attached them to a handmade hammered fine silver ring. I created a beaded necklace strand using amethyst and faceted iolite, then attached the briolette charm to the center. The necklace is about 16 inches long and has sterling findings.

I am loving the gems!!!!  Are you in love too?

Etsy shop of the week- Contrariwise

I love this shop on Etsy: contrariwise

She has so many beautiful stones and settings, as well as wire work and beads.  From reading her profile, I think I have a lot in common with her- starting out slowly in jewelry and after a few years developing more and more skills.

Just look at the intricate designs, stampings, and bezel work on this piece:
Of course, the gorgeous chrysocolla she uses shines brightly.

Another thing I notice is the fashioning of integral bails on pendants as in this piece:
I can't quite get bails- usually to me they are just what holds the pendant on the chain and as long as it's serviceable and strong, it's fine by me.  But I really like the idea of making a bail into a design component.

I also like the simplicity of some her work, spirals, single beads that dangle:

But my fav by far is this:
I am a big time sucker for drusy of all types.  Sugar to me.  I want to eat 'em all up!

Come check out contrariwise today!

Big News: Opening New Etsy Shops

Hi to anyone who might read this!  I've decided after much thinking that it is time to open other Etsy shops so my items form a more cohesive whole.  Currently in my ScrapMetal shop on Etsy I sell my handcrafted jewelry and my digitally produced scrapbooks.  Though my shop name, ScrapMetal, melds these two crafts together, the reality is that my scrapbooks seem glaringly out of place amidst the baubles.  This, I've taken the plunge as others have done and opened a second Etsy shop:  ScrapMetal Memories

Time will tell if it is a good decision or not, but since my scrapbooks have not been selling in my jewelry store, it seems to be a good move. They were not getting the attention they deserved;  now maybe they will!

Also in the works:  another new Etsy shop of mine called Scrapmetal Statements  will be launched soon, within the next couple of weeks.  This shop takes my love of jewelry and digital design to a new level.  In this shop I will sell ID lanyards with a twist.  Those of us who have to wear ID badges to work have to sacrifice style over function.  So I have created a line of beaded necklace lanyards.  The lanyards will be strung with semiprecious beads and have the swivel hook at the bottom for the ID badge.  But that's not all.  The best part about these necklace lanyards is that along the side you can attach your favorite ScrapMetal Statements pendant.  Each pendant has a digital image of a retro woman uttering some sassy saying.  I make the pendants using Photoshop Elements, brass bezel cups, and epoxy resin.  And what's even better is the necklace lanyards have spring clasps so you can switch out your favorite pendant depending on your mood.  You can also purchase multiple necklaces to match your outfits.   I will let you know when I'm opening the ScrapMetal Statements store.
